CELEBRATING OUR HISTORY IN NEW YORK STATE
* Advancing the Women's Agenda & Advocacy
Documented some 171 years ago, women like Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Harriet Tubman, and "suffragents" like Frederick Douglass and many, many others were awakened to this activism, manifesting their voices in the historic "Temperance" and "Abolitionist" movements. This awareness and understanding validated that women "holistically" - regardless of race, heritage and culture - have endemic common values steeped in what all Americans have defined and revered as their inalienable rights.
We celebrate this milestone through the launching of a series of freedom-based events as we march toward 2020 emphasizing our triumphs and strengths. We have "come a long way baby," and despite the convoluted path, we emerge like swans - a bit scarred yet whole, intact and ready to face a brave new world.
Please join us this is an intergenerational celebration of Women, Family and Friends. All are welcome to share, be inspired and network as we celebrate our victories, commonalities and differences.

The Barber Shack is hosting it's first "Cuts for a Cure" with a special meaning to Women TIES and its owner Tracy Chamberlain Higginbotham. Please mark the date and plan on joining us or sending your son, husband or male associates to this special event.
Story Behind the Event:
One of Tracy Chamberlain Higginbotham's son's best friends, Ryley Shackelton, who owns The Barber Shack in Camillus, NY, decided after seeing the Post Standard front page story about her struggle with the autoimmune disease Alopecia to host a Cut-A-Thon to benefit the National Alopecia Areata Foundation with a fundraiser and Tracy with a new wig.
On the opening Sunday of the NFL's 100th Year, three - four barbers at The Barber Shack will cut hair for free in return for a donation that day to the cause. The event will be themed for the NFL Centennial season with beverages, food and numerous televisions playing the games as people wait for their hair to be cut. It will be festive, fun and a terrific way to support this special cause.
People can wear their favorite NFL Jersey or Team Shirt - since we'll take a tally of the most faithful fans that show up. Take a turn winning some raffle prizes winners of the new NFL Rule Changes or NFL History Trivia contests. Plus music and more fun! Come support this community event and special fundraiser.
"They lose their hair. We cut yours for free to help Alopecia suffers grow their hair back someday through a cure."
If you can't make the fundraiser but would like to contribute to the event, you can pay the "ticket price" for the event and proceeds will be brought to the event collection box by Women TIES, LLC.

About the Presenter
Good things come to those who wait, and this young Camillus man didn't have to wait long to achieve his dream.
Riley Shackleton, 24, was born in Camillus, NY and had a passion for Syracuse basketball just like most of the members of the local community. It wasn't until the latter years of high school where he discovered one of his biggest talents, cutting hair.
He remembered getting a pair of clippers for Christmas in his tenth grade year of high school and using his friends to practice, including Tracy Higginbotham's son Adam.
From high school he had a vision for himself, to own his own barbershop. Weeks away from accomplishing that feat he recalls where the drive came from.
"When college came around I didn't want to go to college. I went to barber school and that took four months, got my license, and then I've been in shops ever since." After getting certified in 2014 at a Rochester barber school, Shackleton worked in four different locations across the Syracuse and Camillus communities including two separate spells at Campus Cuts a barbershop near the Syracuse University campus. His entrepreneurial mindset is what has encouraged him to finally open his own shop.
"It's always been a goal to open my own shop. That should be the goal for everyone to have their own whether it be in a different field or not. To be my own boss is what my goal is. "
