Profile: My name is Jody Brown and my business is called Wholly Education. The name comes from when I discovered that the three words heal, whole, and holy all come from the same root word, the old English word hal. That means that there was a time when those three concepts were so intertwined that we only needed one word to describe them all. I have wondered how the concepts became so dis-integrated, but I am encouraged by how with today’s holistic approach we are integrating them back together. So Wholly Education is a play on those words. My mission with Wholly Education is to empower people to realize their full potential by nourishing their body, mind, and spirit and I offer a wide range of services to accomplish this. I lead meditation classes as well as Health Coaching, Reiki, and Women’s Retreats called Journey to Inner Peace. Additionally, I help people with rites of passage as a non-denominational wedding officiant specializing in non-traditional and custom wedding ceremonies. As if that weren’t enough, I also teach piano using the Suzuki Method.

Profile: Rachel Hogancamp is the co-founder of Rasa Spa, in partnership with Cayuga Medical Center and Island Health and Fitness. A licensed massage therapist since 1994, Rachel has taught classes at the Finger Lakes School of Massage (FLSM) in most massage modalities, as well as in the areas of communication skills and business for massage therapists, while growing her own committed clientèle. An active member of her community, Rachel has focused her volunteer work on serving the needs of those with particular health challenges. To that end, Rachel has been a supporter of the AIDS Ride since its inception, as well as for the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes. An avid and accomplished photographer, and a supporter of the visual arts, everywhere you look at Rasa you will see the work of local artists.
When the opportunity came to open Rasa, Rachel was eager to create a full-service spa, dedicated to serving the whole person, and for the spa to be not simply a place of luxury, but a fully-integrated part of the health care offered in the entire Island Health complex. I taught at the Onondaga School for Therapeutic Massage. I was very instrumental in bringing the awareness of Massage Therapy to our area. I am semi retired. My first office was at 1939 Genesee Street. This gave me an opportunity to speak at the Medical School and present various programs about Massage to Syracuse University. I had self care massage classes at my office. I was adamant that I would educate our community about licensed massage therapist. I would host various workshops at my office for licensed massage therapists. There is a difference of going to a licensed massage professional and someone that is not licensed. We were the first center to offer massages at the New York State Fair in the Center of Progress Building. |
